Summary of Discovery Course

The Discovery Program uses a teaching model for social and emotional education for young adults.  It focuses on values and skills such as team building, mutual respect, dignity, clear and effective communication, problem solving, and management of emotions.  The Discovery Model, as it draws on multiple resources, is the foundation for a classroom and building-wide culture of healthy interaction among students and staff, to ensure that the school environment is both physically and emotionally safe for all.

Group skills
  • Learning to work effectively in a group
  • Focuses on cooperation and positive mental attitude

Anger management
  • Teaches how to deal with anger and frustration

Communication skills
  • Teaches how to communicate clearly and to be understood

Assertiveness training
  • Teaches how to be assertive

Problem solving
  • Teaches how to effectively solve problems

Conflict resolution
  • Teaches how to resolve conflicts and how to keep them from accumulating
